Tarpon Dreams: Our Story

Tarpon Dreams was born from a simple realization.

The most memorable fishing experiences are rarely just about catching fish.

They're about the anticipation of planning a trip. The excitement of booking flights. The conversations with guides. The local food. The waterfront lodging. The sunrise coffee overlooking a lagoon. The stories shared long after the trip is over.

After years of fishing Florida waters and exploring Puerto Rico's legendary tarpon lagoons, it became clear that the pursuit of tarpon represented something much bigger than fishing itself.

It represented adventure.

Tarpon Dreams was created to capture that feeling and share it with others who understand why a single fish can inspire a lifetime of exploration.

Why Tarpon?

Few fish inspire the level of obsession that tarpon do.

They are powerful, unpredictable, prehistoric, and beautiful. They can explode from the water in a series of violent jumps or disappear without warning after following a bait for several minutes.

Tarpon challenge anglers physically and mentally. Every encounter feels earned.

But beyond their incredible fighting ability, tarpon often inhabit some of the most beautiful and interesting environments in the world. Mangrove shorelines, tropical lagoons, coastal estuaries, river systems, and remote backwaters all become part of the experience.

Unlike many destinations that require extensive logistics, Puerto Rico allows anglers to step off a plane and be on productive tarpon water within hours.

The island's famous lagoons have become legendary among tarpon enthusiasts, offering opportunities to target fish ranging from juveniles to true giants in a setting unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean.

Puerto Rico continues to serve as the foundation of the Tarpon Dreams experience and remains one of our favorite destinations to explore, fish, and share with others.

And if you are REALLY Wondering here... we Live in the Tampa Bay Area and Fish Tampa Bay, The Skyway, the Upper Bay, Egmont Key, Anna Maria Island and all the Beaches North and South of the Mouth of Tampa Bay.

Why do I bring this Up?

Primarily because when we reference Puerto Rico, people are often confused. WHY? They ask.

Well, if you have never fished Puerto Rico, it is absolutely LOADED with Tarpon. They are largely under--targeted. Sure the lagoons get there fair share of pressure, but those are juvenile fish that are hungry, growing and very, very cooperative.

Whether you are a Novice and want to catch you very first Tarpon, or a Season Tarpon Veteran and want lot's of Action. PR is the Easy Ticket.

Dead Bait, Live Bait, Artificial, Fly Fishing... Does not matter. They Cooperate! Daily. No Seasons. All the Time. 

Raining? All Tarpon like the Rain, but PR Lagoon Tarpon are INSANE after a rain. Why? Most likely Run Off from the Urban Areas brings an influx of oxygenated water into the Dark, Low o2 Waters of the Lagoon. Gets the bait moving and maybe just cools them off a bit and gets them charged. Bring Rain Gear. But I never used mine there. If you have ever Fished Florida and understand Summer Rain Patterns, Puerto Rico is Similar. But in my experience, it tends to start a bit earlier. 2:00pm and it is over in an Hour. So Afternoon Trips can be Stellar. 

My Favorite Cycle is this: 4 Days of Fishing. 1 Morning 4-6 Hours / 1 Afternoon 4-6 Hours / Rinse & Repeat.
